Biography
Nick Millevoi is a Philadelphia-based guitarist and composer whose music draws upon the influences of avant garde jazz, modern classical, and rock and roll to create his personal sound. A restless sonic explorer, Nick's maximizes the possibilities of the electric guitar through frequent use of feedback, raw noise, and non-traditional tunings. While maintaining several of his own projects, including his solo-guitar work, Nick is a member of the noise-rock-free jazz trio Many Arms, modern chamber duo Archer Spade, and psychedelic rock band Chris Forsyth and the Solar Motel Band.
As a performer in many different projects, Nick regularly tours throughout the US and Europe, recently performing at festivals, such as Incubate (Netherlands), Gaffer Fest (France), Suoni Per Il Popolo (Canada), the Montreal Jewish Music Festival, the New Atlantis Festival (DC), and John Zorn's Masada Book Three Premiere concert at New York's Town Hall. Nick has recorded with groups such as Haitian Rail, Form and Mess, Make A Rising, Deveykus, Gene Coleman's Ensemble N_JP, and Dead Neanderthals for labels such as Tzadik, New Atlantis, Gaffer, The Flenser, Sick Room, and Public Eyesore.
The Village Voice has called Nick a "guitar-wielding, audience-massacring hero," and music journal Burning Ambulance has described him as, "A fierce player who knows his way around a riff and can tie himself, and the listener, in knots with his contorted, passionate soloing." Millevoi's music has been reviewed by SPIN, NPR Music, The Onion AV Club, Wire magazine, and many others. |
